Moving to Substack
Having this space was fun, but let’s try something new. Find me on Substack at www.jaycereadsromance.substack.com.

My Annotating Journey
The story of how over the past year I went from never considering writing in a book, to developing my personal annotating system.

Business or Pleasure
Spice Level: 3/5
Kinks Explored: all vanilla
Voices Heard: Our main couple is Jewish. There are also a lot of queer and POC side characters.
Did I like it? 5/5 read for me. No notes.

What is a “Reading Slump?”
I’m getting honest about a reading slump. How mine appeared. How it felt. How I handled the feelings. How I moved forward.

Creating a Safe Space
98% of my experience at a book conference exceeded my expectations. I met incredible people, and have an even bigger love for this book community.
But something happened that I want to speak out about. We need to create a safe space for us.

Faking with Benefits
Spice Level: 4/5
Kinks Explored: Polyamory. I KNOW THIS ISN’T A KINK. But I want to highlight that this is a book about polyamory.
Voices Heard: Josh is Asian. Everyone else is white.
Did I like it? Yup. And when I found out that there were three other reverse harem novels she’d written, I got right on that.

Beginner’s Guide to Vampire Romance
Giving you a starting place to step into vampires or jump feet first. Hopefully, there’s a little something for everyone. Enjoy!

365 Days
Spice Level: 4/5
Kinks Explored: None (although bondage equipment is mentioned)
Voices Heard: All white
Did I like it? Ya’ll I had to force myself to finish this book. So…no.

Romancing the Duke
Spice Level: 2/5
Kinks Explored: None.
Voices Heard: Ransom is basically blind. They talk about that struggle from injury, and his fear with how that would affect him as a lover.
Did I like it? Yea. I wanna get another of her books and see what else she has.

That Time I Got Drunk and Saved a Demon
Spice Level: 3/5
Kinks Explored: light bondage, a bit of praise
Voices Heard: Cinnamon is black. As is her best friend Brie.
Did I like it? I loved it so much that after reading it from the library I bought all of her books for myself. I’m obsessed.

Go Hex Yourself
Spice Level: 2/5
Kinks Explored: Nothing new. Though the ages gap of 500 years might be a specific thing for some.
Voices Heard: Reggie has a GBF. They talk about his relationship with Diego, but it’s most white cis het people.
Did I like it? I enjoyed it a lot. Curious to see what the next book is like.

Love & Other Disasters
Spice Level: 2/5
Kinks Explored: None
Voices Heard: Queer, Trans, Latina
Did I like it? Outside of the third act breakup, I was all in. The scene in the garden….Loved it.

Ten Trends to Seduce Your Bestfriend
Spice Level: 2/5
Kinks Explored: None
Voices Heard: None
Did I like it? The awkward is adorable. I appreciated the intimate journey they went on together. This felt like something that happens often in today’s world, but people might feel ashamed about. I’m glad that people who haven’t found the person they’re ready to be intimate with, can look to this story and (hopefully) see themselves as accepted.

A Princess in Theory
Spice Level: 2/5
Kinks Explored: Not a one
Voices Heard: This is almost an exclusively black cast of characters. Thabiso’s assistant and best friend is also a gay woman.
Did I like it? It was great!!!

The Ritual
Spice Level: 4/5
Kinks Explored: bondage, breath control, D/s, primal play, forced sex fantasy, exhibition, and voyeurism
Voices Heard: so many white people in the middle of nowhere PA
Did I like it? …I…did

Icebreaker
Spice Level: 4/5
Kinks Explored: Vanilla. But it was great to show that vanilla people like to bone too.
Voices Heard: Only one side character of significance is not white.
Did I like it? It’s a solid spicy hockey romance.

The Dark King
Spice Level: 3/5 (but what’s there is good!)
Kinks Explored: Bondage, Impact, D/s, orgasm control, some degradation
Voices Heard: Turns out everyone is Fae, but they are mostly described as though they are white.
Did I like it? <3

Raider’s of the Lost Heart
Spice Level: 3/5
Kinks Explored: Vanilla. But fun. Welcome to the jungle.
Voices Heard: Corrie is Mexican.
Did I like it? So much fun!!!

King of Wrath
Spice Level: 3/5
Kinks Explored: Nothing is explicitly stated as a kink
Voices Heard: Vivian is Chinese. There are a lot of conversations about her cultural experience. There are a few other AAPI characters in the story.
Did I like it? I was not expecting to enjoy this. This changed it for me. I’m very curious to read the rest of the books in her series.

Fall of Ruin and Wrath
Spice Level: 2.5/5 There’s so much sexual tension and sex around her. I had to add the half point
Kinks Explored: None. Just magical cum.
Voices Heard: There are different skin tones described in this book, but I wouldn’t call this a very diverse book.
Did I like it? Yeah. I just wish it was available in paperback.
Well, hello there. My name is Jayce.
